Female Rhinoplasty Surgery in Miami
In general, the techniques used by plastic surgeons for both male and female rhinoplasty are the same, though the aesthetic goals of the patient are often quite different. In women, the angle between the nose and the lip tend to be more obtuse, with a delicate upturn to the nasal tip that does not create excess nostril show.Women tend to have a nasal tip that is more delicate and the transition from the forehead to the nasal root is more gentle. Both men and women usually appreciate a straighter nose on both side and front views.
What You Can Expect in Your Free Consultation
During the consultation visit with your plastic surgeon, you will discuss your reasons for undergoing the rhinoplasty procedure. Dr. White will examine your nose from the inside and outside and then take a few photographs. He may decide to use a medical morphing program to show you how your nose might look once the procedure has been completed. Finally, medical testing may be performed to ensure you are healthy enough and physically capable of undergoing the procedure.
Correcting Functional Problems
For many, functional problems such as breathing troubles are the main reason for undergoing female rhinoplasty. By straightening a crooked septum, supporting a weak and floppy nostril rim or nasal valve, or shrinking the nasal turbinates, the nasal airways are cleared and you can breathe easier.
Female Rhinoplasty Procedure
Female rhinoplasty can be performed through either a closed or an open surgical approach. A closed procedure involves a small incision being made on the interior of your nose and placing all grafts into very precise pockets. This is Dr. White’s preferred method of rhinoplasty since it cuts down on postoperative swelling and decreases the amount of scar inside and outside of the nose. An open rhinoplasty procedure involves a single incision being made on the flap of skin connecting your nostrils together in addition to the internal incisions. This method has the advantage of providing increased visualization of the nasal anatomy and is helpful for some of the more complicated cases, but not always necessary.
Female Rhinoplasty Recovery
For the majority of patients, the recovery process is the same, though some experience recovery differently than others. For the most part, you will experience some swelling and bruising once the procedure has concluded. Prescription medication can be prescribed to reduce the swelling and reduce any pain that may occur. For the first few weeks, it is best to sleep with an extra pillow under your head, to avoid sneezing where possible, avoid aspirin and ibuprofen that might increase the chance of bleeding, and to avoid any heavy lifting that could increase your blood pressure and lead to bleeding in the nose.
