Rhinoplasty Series, Part 1: Myths About Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty Series Part 1 Myths About Rhinoplasty

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the second most popular procedure that is performed by plastic surgeons is rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job (the first is breast augmentation).

Going under the knife certainly isn’t a decision to be taken lightly, and it’s so important that you conduct proper research before going ahead. However, if it’s something that you want to do, you shouldn’t let the following myths change your mind. At Arc Plastic Surgeons, we’re going to quash these common rhinoplasty myths once and for all.

1. It’s an Easy Procedure

Many people assume that because the procedure takes between 1 and 2 hours that it’s easy. However, everyone is different and depending on how much of the nose requires changing, it can become more complicated. There are a number of elements that come into play including the artistic aspect as well as the intricate surgery itself. Our Miami rhinoplasty surgeons work extra hard in ensuring that the results are exactly how you want them to be.

2. Horrible Bruising will Occur

Yes, we’ve all seen those pictures of people who have experienced a large amount of bruising after rhinoplasty. Bruising is natural, but how much an individual gets it really depends on that person as well as the level of work that was carried out. Some people do need their nose to be broken before surgery which can result in badly bruised and black eyes. However, even if you do end up with a little bit of bruising, it will clear up in no time.

3. It’s Very Painful

Of course, everyone has a different level of pain and can feel pain in different ways. However, while rhinoplasty seems like it would be painful and the aforementioned bruising can look sore, it’s usually only discomfort that a patient would experience. There are painkillers that can be taken to prevent the pain with many patients saying that they simply feel as if they have a cold.

4. Any Surgeon Can Perform Rhinoplasty

This one is simply not true! You would never let a random, unqualified person work on your car who didn’t know what they were doing so you certainly shouldn’t let someone perform surgery on you who has no experience, qualifications or reputation.
