Sculpting A Stronger Profile
It is a common realization during a video call or after a night out: something about your lower face feels a little out of balance. Many people find themselves focusing on the shape of their nose or the contour of their neck, unaware that a recessed chin may be the actual culprit. When the chin lacks projection, it changes the way other features look, from the way your lips sit to the sharpness of your jawline. Chin filler is a non-surgical treatment that uses thick, structural gels to add shape, length, or projection to the lower face. By placing fillers directly near the chin bone, we can strengthen a weak chin, smooth out skin texture, and create a sharper distinction between your face and your neck.
| Chin Filler Cost | Price depends on the number of syringes and the type of gel used |
| Downtime | Most patients are ready for social plans in 1 to 2 days |
| Pain Level | You may feel a firm pinch or pressure during the chin filler injection |
| Duration | The treatment usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes |
The Foundation Of Your Profile
Chin filler treatment is a popular method for improving the size and shape of the lower face. Most of the dermal fillers we use consist of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance found in the human body. Unlike lip fillers, which are soft and bouncy, a filler for the chin uses much firmer gel. This is because it needs to mimic the feel of your natural bone to provide real support. When we perform a chin filler injection, we are essentially building a more defined profile without the need for a permanent foreign object or surgery. It is an FDA-approved method that allows us to move the chin forward or make it slightly longer. Because nonsurgical chin augmentation offers temporary results, it is a great way to see how a stronger jawline looks on you before considering plastic surgery.
Bringing Your Features in Balance
Choosing a chin filler injection does more than just change one feature; it changes your overall facial harmony. Because your chin is the anchor for the soft tissues on your neck and jaw, adding a little volume can have a ripple effect across your whole lower third.
Common Concerns For The Chin
During your visit, we look at the way your lower face is built to decide which treatment options will help most. We use injectable treatments to address several common issues caused by genetics or age-related volume loss.
This is when the chin sits too far back toward the neck. A chin filler treatment brings it forward to meet the rest of your face.
As we age, we lose bone and fat in the chin area. Dermal fillers restore this lost volume to keep the face looking supported.
While these lines are higher up, a recessed chin can make marionette lines and nasolabial folds look deeper. Supporting the chin helps smooth the soft tissues above it.
Filler can smooth out "orange peel" skin or deep creases in the chin region.
If one side of your chin is different from the other, we use hyaluronic acid fillers to make the shape look more symmetrical.
Temporary vs. Permanent Change
Both fillers and chin implants can improve your profile, but they work in very different ways. We often suggest nonsurgical procedures as a first step before deciding on a more permanent surgical fix.
| Type | Chin Filler | Chin Implants |
| Type of Procedure | 15-minute injection | Plastic surgery |
| Downtime | Minimal downtime | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Results | Lasts 1–2 years | Permanent |
| Reversible? | Yes, can be dissolved | Requires another surgery |
The Different Types Of Gel
Because the chin needs to feel firm, we don't use the same soft hyaluronic acid gels we use for lips. We choose fillers that are strong enough to hold their shape and lift the soft tissues.
Gels like Juvederm Volux and Voluma are FDA-approved specifically for the jaw and chin. They are very firm and provide excellent chin projection.
Known by the brand name Radiesse, this filler helps your body build its own collagen. It mimics the density of your jawbone and gives results that build over time.
Who Is A Good Fit?
An ideal candidate for this treatment is a healthy adult who wants to improve their facial harmony without the risks of surgery. You might be a great fit if you feel like your chin is too small for your face or if you want your jawline to look more defined and structured. It's important to share your medical history, as we will hold off on treatment if you have certain inflammatory reactions, autoimmune issues, or a history of severe adverse events with dermal fillers. We also typically wait to treat patients who have an active skin breakout, rash, or infection at the injection site.
15-Minute Transformation
Dr. White does every injection himself to ensure the placement is perfect for your anatomy. He starts by mapping out your chin and checking the strength of your muscles. To make the treatment experience comfortable, we may apply a numbing cream to the treatment area before we begin. To keep the process safe and minimize bruising, we may use a tiny, blunt tube called a cannula. This allows us to place the filler smoothly. Most of our patients say the actual treatment feels like a firm pinch and then a bit of pressure. The whole process is usually done in about 20 minutes, and you can see the difference immediately.
There is almost no downtime after your chin filler treatment. You might feel some firmness in the chin area for a day or two. You should sleep with your head elevated the first night to help with any swelling.
Common side effects can include minor bruising, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site. These potential side effects are usually mild and go away within a few days. Most common side effects resolve on their own without needing extra care.
Try to avoid touching or massaging your chin for 48 hours so the filler can stay exactly where it was placed. You should also skip heavy gym sessions or very hot saunas for the first day. While the results are instant, the filler fully sets after about two weeks. Most patients find their new look lasts between 12 and 18 months.
The chin is the main anchor for your lower face, so it takes a deep understanding of bone and muscle to get the look right. Dr. White is one of the few surgeons in the country board-certified in both plastic surgery and otolaryngology (head and neck surgery). This means he has spent years specializing specifically in the complex anatomy of the face and neck. While many people can give an injection, very few have the surgical background to understand how a change in your chin affects the rest of your profile.
At our Miami office, Dr. White looks at your jawline through the eyes of a facial specialist and a biomedical engineer. He calculates exactly how much volume you need to bring your chin into balance with your nose and neck. He personally performs every treatment to make sure the results look sharp and natural. You get the benefit of a high-level specialist who ensures your chin looks like a natural part of you.
Actually, it usually does the opposite. By adding length or projection to the chin, filler helps elongate the face, making the jawline look slimmer and more defined.
Most patients need one to two syringes to see a real change in their profile. If we are also defining the jawline for overall facial harmony, we might use more.
Because we place it deep near the bone, it will feel firm to the touch. This is what makes it look and feel like a natural part of your jaw.
Beyond the common side effects like redness or swelling, there are rare adverse reactions. During your visit, we will explain all possible side effects and how we keep the treatment safe.
No, these are nonsurgical procedures. The hyaluronic acid will eventually be absorbed by your body, so you will need a touch-up injection to maintain your results.
